Marce King is an Australian artist whose practice explores identity, gender, the body and queer experience. Working primarily across drawing and painting, Marce is best known for figurative works created in pen, often combined with bold accents of acrylic paint. Their work uses the human figure as a way to explore how we see ourselves, how we are seen by others, and the many layers that shape identity.

Drawing has remained at the centre of Marce’s practice, with line, colour and mark making used to create works that are both personal and open to interpretation. Their art often reflects themes of self discovery, visibility, connection and belonging, while celebrating the colour, diversity and individuality found within queer communities.

Alongside their figurative work, Marce has recently begun developing a new series of abstract, imagined landscapes. Bright, colourful and intentionally removed from reality, these works create spaces that feel separate from the noise and uncertainty of the world around us. While still connected to queer identity through their use of colour, joy and imagination, the landscapes also explore dissociation, escape and the desire to find calm in increasingly chaotic times.

Marce has exhibited widely throughout Australia, including in Melbourne, Sydney and regional cities, as well as internationally in New York. Their work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions and is held in private collections.

Through both figurative and abstract work, Marce continues to explore identity, emotion and the ways art can help us understand ourselves, imagine something different and create space for connection.
